About

The West Side Elementary Library Media Center directly services the students, teachers and parents attending West Side.  The LMC is open from 8:30-3:20 Monday-Friday.   All Grade have a combined "Tech Time" and Library as an hour block each week. "Tech Time" allows for collaborative technology projects with classroom teachers, which includes such things as presentations and creative and interactive writing that enhance what they are studying in the classroom.  We venture into video creation and editing and dive into database and research skills, as well as internet safety and ettiqute.  Emphasis is put on critical thinking when using technology. During library students are introduced to a variety of electronic and print resources.  Technology is used to explore and enhance the study of different authors, illustrators and genres of literature. We work on developing searching skills as well as other technology skills.  Each grade level also has units thoughout the year focused on internet safety and digital citizenship skills as we continue to navigate the ever chaning digital warld in a safe and respectful way. Above all we are committed to fostering a love for life long learning as we mesh literature, writing and technology together!

Meet Your Librarian...

Miss Sexe

After graduating from Deerfield High School (2005), I attended Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, MN for my undergraduate degree in Education - Social Studies Teaching with minors in Geography and Dance (2009).  During my time at Gustavus, I worked in the curriculum library helping student teachers find materials they needed for their lessons and as an assistant in the computer lab on Sunday nights.  I grew to love helping people find resources and realized I wanted to become a Library Media Specialist.  After graduation, I came back to Wisconsin to attend UW-Madison to pursue my Masters degree at the School of Library and Information Studies, which I completed in 2011.  I have been teaching at West Side Elementary since 2011.  I absolutely love working at West Side and appreciate all the students, staff and parents I have gotten to know! I look forward to helping our students navigate and create with technology and find literature they love everyday!
